Alexander Technique

What happens?

The technique is taught on a one-to-one basis. Teachers use verbal instruction and gentle guidance with their hands to unravel excessive muscular tension & distortion in the body.

Pupils then experience how the body can work with appropriate, minimum effort that can be applied to all areas of daily activity. Pupils remain fully clothed, although you will be asked to remove your shoes. There is no strenuous activity required in an Alexander Technique lesson, simply a thoughtful engagement with the learning process.

How many lessons will I need?

The Society for the Teachers of the Alexander Technique recommends a minimum of 20 lessons. This gives you a good basis to begin applying the Technique in your daily life. However, it's not necessary to commit to a certain number of lessons. It's up to you how many you have.

How often do I need to come for lessons?

Learning the Alexander Technique is similar to learning a foreign language or a musical instrument: repetition accelerates the learning process. Therefore - especially in the beginning - it's important to come as regularly as possible. Once a week is fine.
